Handcrafts from Bali and Indonesia

The warmth and texture of handmade work is appreciated for its personality and individuality by interior designers and galleries. Whether you are drawn to Indonesian handcrafts for nostalgia, to remind you of happy holidays in Bali, or in appreciation of fine craftsmanship, you'll find products to create special effects within your home, and a beautiful, unusual gift to delight a friend.

Our Balinese and Indonesian products, having been made by hand in village workshops, may differ slightly from the images in our catalogue.

Truly a world apart from the bland mass-produced homeware you'll most commonly find on homeware and giftware sites, our products have been selected by us for quality and sustainability. We purchase our products at the price set by our suppliers, in recognition of their high quality of work.

PRODUCTS FROM THE ARTISTIC COMMUNITIES OF BALI AND INDONESIA

Our annual trips to Indonesia and Bali to visit artisans and craftsmen in their villages are tremendous fun. We've made wonderful friends amongst the artists and the communities they live in since our business began in 2000.

We have met all our suppliers, and often their families too, and come to know the remote, mountainous jungle interior of Bali pretty well – pothole by pothole! We have seen young children grow up and take their place alongside their elders to learn the family's traditional craft.

These crafts have been practised as family traditions for centuries; our suppliers have grown up within communities who are respected for their dedication and creativity throughout Indonesia.

We have chosen our products for their quality and originality. Having supplied similar products from these artisans for well over a decade, we appreciate the time they invest in each artefact and their pride in their profession, and we believe you will too.

TRADITIONAL AND CONTEMPORARY DESIGNS

Many of the products you find in our catalogue are made using traditional methods and tools; others are contemporary designs, as traditional works sit alongside more modern artefacts, some of which are our own exclusive designs, which respond to the needs of our New Zealand market. You'll find these modern and traditional works can live happily side by side

SUSTAINABLE RESOURCES USED FOR WOODEN PRODUCTS

Most of the products made from wood are carved from Albizia trees grown specifically for this purpose.
